Welcome!

2007 -- another year, another season - amazingly, my 58th in a row, either as a happy spectator or otherwise-interested party. Where do the years go when you're enjoying yersel'?

Dick as others see him!Y'see, in addition to many and varied other interests, I'm a lad who has been a lifelong afficianado of motor-cycle speedway racing, having been taken (at a very tender age) to watch Glasgow Tigers racing against Glasgow Giants at my native city's old White City Stadium in June, 1949!

Still going strong, too - I love summer nights, just watching the Monarchs at Armadale, where I get to spend my Friday nights these days. While the persuasive Peter Waite has recently managed to lure back onto the infield at Berwick, where I first took hold of their mike back in 1972 - always nice to realise the sport can offer a guy something new, even in his 58th season!

Of course, I used to do a bit more - in my time I've been a track announcer at Hampden Park, Coatbridge, Blantyre and Berwick speedways, as well as infield anchor-man/host at Belle Vue (Manchester), Powderhall (Edinburgh) and Shawfield in Glasgow. I contributed weekly columns on the sport to the Scottish Daily Record, various trade magazines and programmes for over 20 summers - and was a regular broadcaster about speedway on radio and TV for many years.

I promoted the sport in Glasgow during the wildly-successful inaugural Shawfield season of 1988, and with considerable further success at Berwick during 1989/91, ending up being voted "Promoter of the Year" by my peers of the BSPA.

Want to check out more about my opinions on the sport, past and present? Or learn more about speedway racing's history?
