Welcome!

Another year, another summer - after such a great year in '03, what can 2004 hold for all us ball-game nuts?

Y'see, in addition to my other, perhaps better-known interests, I have a compulsive interest in "America's National Pastime" - the sport of baseball - having read avidly of heroes such as Babe Ruth in my younger days, before realising his dream of first seeing a Major League game in the United States a few years ago!

Last year I visited New York, saw games at both Shea and Yankee Stadiums and achieved another of my lifetime ambitions by visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown. Pure magic!

Back in the summer of 2001 I caught up with all grades of baseball, when I visited the states of Maryland, Virginia and Delaware during a nine-night safari early in June! I saw major-league baseball at Philadelphia's Veterans Stadium (Phillies v Mets) and at Camden Yards in Baltimore (Orioles - blissfully, with #8 still on show - against Montreal Expos).

In addition, I crammed in seven (well, six unless you count rain-offs) minor-league visits - to backwater ballparks where I found clubs such as the Delmarva Shorebirds, Potomac Cannons, Hagerstown Suns, Richmond Braves, Lynchburg Hillcats, Bowie Baysox and Wilmington Blue Rocks - and these were just the home teams!

Plus some fine Shenandoah Valley scenery (oh, those Blue Ridge Mountains!) Washington DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia history - and quite a lot of country music in between the ballgames!

Now, looking back to that summer, I can tell you all about it - fuller descriptions are still surfacing in magazine articles, etc, - as I've now attached a wee travelogue to let you read about the trip!

Want to check out more about my opinions on the sport, past and present? Or learn more about baseball in general?
