SEA SCOTLAND LTDAfter leaving school, and short spells in accountancy and the whisky trade, Dick joined the staff of Thomas Meadows & Co Ltd (a long-established Shipping and Forwarding agency) in Glasgow when he was 19.
Dick stayed with the Meadows organisation, rising to a managerial position, and working mainly from their offices near Glasgow Airport until (after an ill-fated take-over of the company by the Rockwood Group in 1988) he moved to AIR SEA SCOTLAND LTD, who are his country's leading Scottish-owned freight forwarder. This wise move (within two years of his departure, the former Meadows company crashed into receivership) has seen his business career continue apace, and he is currently Import & Development Manager for Air Sea Scotland Ltd.
Freight forwarding is the business of acting on behalf of a company which receives import cargo, or wishes to export its products overseas, but does not wish to employ full-time shipping or airfreight experts on their own staff. The advantage of using a company such as AIR SEA SCOTLAND LTD lies in the knowledge that - as absolute experts in their field - their assistance will ensure safe and efficient transportation of the employing firm's cargo, while the need only to "pay for what you receive" will usually prove much more economical than the employment of a full-time shipping department.
